AFS Produces with Green Energy, Shares the Surplus

AFS, which is making intensive efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, one of the key drivers of global warming and climate change, published its 2023 Carbon Footprint Report and, following the verification process conducted by TOBB MEYBEM, released its verification statements. Shortly after, the company certified the renewable energy it generates with an international I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate) and began offering it to a wide range of companies involved in production and service provision.

AFS, one of the leading brands in the air conditioning sector, which exports to nearly 100 countries today, generates its production electricity from a solar power plant consisting of a total of 2,537 panels on the rooftops of factories in Ankara’s İvedik OSB and Sincan OSB. With a commitment to being a responsible company for both the world and society, AFS has obtained the internationally recognized I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate) for its renewable energy production used for self-consumption. By doing so, the company offsets all of its Scope 2 carbon emissions and also offers the remaining I-REC credits for sale, helping its business partners reduce their carbon emissions and supporting the promotion of renewable energy investments.

AFS Deputy General Manager Ahmet POYRAZ, who emphasized that every unit reduction in the carbon footprint creates benefits both socially, economically, and ecologically, stated: “Each I-REC certificate represents 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity generated from renewable energy sources. AFS is committed to promoting green energy production and use for a sustainable ecosystem. In line with this goal, we convert the energy we generate from renewable sources into I-REC certificates and offer them to companies that request them. Companies can easily submit their application requests through afs.com.tr. The I-REC certificate offers companies not only emission reduction benefits but also significant advantages in terms of finance, marketing, and reputation. Exporters can benefit from carbon emission tax exemptions or reductions on the products they export thanks to these certificates. We are proud to contribute to our country’s sustainability and economy by encouraging brands to use clean energy through our I-REC certificates. AFS will continue to reduce carbon emissions day by day with the goal of being better than the previous year. We thank everyone involved.”

I-REC is an international certification system developed by RECS International that certifies electricity produced and consumed comes from renewable energy sources and specifies its environmental characteristics. Renewable energy facilities that fulfill certain criteria are registered in the database created by I-REC and obtain renewable energy certificates corresponding to the electricity they produce. Energy production companies can sell these certificates separately from the electricity sales. Electricity consumers can use the system’s certificates to prove that the electricity they consume comes from renewable energy sources. By acquiring these certificates, they can also support renewable energy investments.
